This article represents the larger part of a lecture by the former Principal of Makerere at a joint meeting with The Royal Empire Society on the 26th January, W. E. F. Ward, Assistant Adviser on Education, being in the chair. Mr. Turner, who is now Headmaster of Charterhouse, was Master of Marlborough before going to Africa in 1939.
